After reading ‘ ‘ and also a couple of short stories with similar themes as this novel, I was convinced he was a great writer, but had not formed a clear opinion. Keep the Aspidistra Flying and Burmese Days are my favourite Orwells so far. Both have flawed protagonists who look at their surroundings and relationships in unorthodox ways. In each, the respective protagonists are pressured to submit to these external influences/5(45).
